A practical starting point

10 inches at 300 pixels per inch needs 3000 pixels on that edge. A 5000-pixel edge at 300 PPI represents about 16.67 inches.

Does changing DPI add detail?

No. It changes how a pixel grid is interpreted at a physical size; it does not create image information.

Why are pixels rounded?

An image needs whole pixel dimensions. This calculator rounds calculated pixel counts to the nearest integer.

Is 300 PPI always required?

Requirements depend on the print process and provider. Enter the value appropriate for your job.
